He has the Words of Life because He is the Holy One of God! We follow many different people, trends, leaders, but there is only one who will lead us to life.

We all want peace -- why can't we find it, even when things are going "well". The peace that we are all looking for is not found in circumstances, things, or money, it is only found in the Prince of Peace

Some say that change is the only constant. While a few of us like change, most do not. Change brings fear of the unknown. Fear that the past will be forgotten. Fear that things might not be as good as they once were. This is why the news of Isaiah 9:6 was so good for the people of Israel to hear, and is just as good, if not better, for us to hear today, for we know that this passage is about our Savior and Lord Jesus, who is our Everlasting Father.

Jesus is the Mighty God! Not something like the Mighty God, but THE Mighty God! He has all the attributes of God, and that is a wonderful thing for us!

What it must have been like to live in ancient Israel, knowing that a superpower like Assyria was coming to take over your home land. I am sure they felt as if darkness was overtaking them. In the midst of this darkness a birth announcement is given by Isaiah -- though 700 years before this child was born -- we hear of hope for the people and hope for us as we all have come to know Jesus, the Wonderful Counselor.

It is a popular saying -- "Count your blessings!" This is easy to do when we see blessings that we would call "good". But the Lord even counts suffering as a blessing for it molds us to see the Lord at work in ways that we wouldn't see if we only had "good" things happen to us. We will take a quick look at the 3 stages of blessing that we see in Scripture.

In a world where we can quickly realize how fragile life is and how strong we truly aren't, the Lord give us Proverbs 3:5-6 as a reminder and a balm for our weary souls. We do have a choice though, are we going to lean on Him, or ourselves?

HPC is blessed to have many who have walked with the Lord for 80 and 90 years. Recently I asked them to share with me what important Christian life lessons that they felt the people of God need to hear. For the first week of this series we spent time in Ephesians 4 as we looked at anger, and how the Lord calls His people to live when we are angry. -- Pastor Rob Ephesians 4:26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

As we sit at the feet of Jesus we hear words of comfort and challenge. Matthew 6:19 -- 24 are some of those challenging words, as Jesus calls us to invest in our eternal inheritance, rather than what we want in this world. May we all find strength and challenge as we follow our Lord.

What if we as the Children of God sought to be as generous as He is? It seems that in our culture the spirit of generosity has gone by the wayside. However, if we can recover it as the Church, we just may be surprised at the word of the Lord around us and through us. Today we will look at the Lord's generosity, and then what it looks like to live a generous life patterned after Him as we look at Acts 2.

Jesus alone has the words of life! As His people we know that His commands are full of life and love, and He calls us to love God with our Strength. What if you strength was more than just our physical strength -- it is! We explore this truth today as we seek to love the Lord will all of us!

Jesus gave us the great Command, the most important, to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength -- but what does it look like to do that? What does it mean to love Him with our hearts? What is our heart? We explore that in this sermon.

We do not as a Church or as individuals be like those in Rev. 2 who left their first love -- that being Jesus and His command to love the Lord and others. As we being our year long theme of loving God/Loving People we first need to take a look at why we love God anyways.

As we conclude the 5 love languages, we finish with Physical Touch. Our culture is very much different from that of Jesus' time, and where the "hows" and "whats" of showing love through physical touch are not the same, the reason behind showing love through physical touch is very much so.

As children we all had a love for giving -- what happened? What if we reclaimed our love for giving gifts, and saw them as reflections of love from the Giver! We must learn this importance lesson as the people of God.

Serving others is a mark of being a follower of Jesus. He set the pattern in John 13 and we are called to follow, as we show the love of Christ, and our love, to others. Please take some time to think about His command and the calling upon your life.

The Lord is with us -- in the 5 love language definition, He has carved out time to be with us as His people. What does it mean that we do the same as we seek to show the love of God to others, espeically to those whose love langague is Quality Time.

Have you ever thought about love? How you show it and how we like to recieve it. When we are called upon to love others, we need to show them love the way that the Lord has made them to receive it. This first sermon in this series looks at an overview of how we give/receive love, and the first love language of Words of Affirmation and Encouragement.
