  • S11E34 Euro 2020 Throwback

    10/12/2021 Duración: 02h13min

Good John was joined by new signing Josh and special guests Neil Doherty, Russell Osbourne and Russell Todd for a Throwback special. As 2021 heads to a close, we look back at the summer of 2021 by reviewing the finals for Euro 2020 - as backward as that sounds. Delayed a year because of the pandemic, the Euros provided light at the end of the tunnel from a football perspective. The Scots recall the hype of being back at a tournament for the first time in 23 years whilst the two Russells add in what the Euros were like from a Welsh and English perspective. For Russell O, he explains why the experience of being at a Final was tainted before it began with the trouble around the stadium. The lads also go over some of the highlights from the rest of the tournament and each picked a best XI, leading to a combined team of the finals. We hope you enjoy this delayed Euro 2020 throwback as much as we did. Remember you can get free shipping and 20% off any product at uk.manscaped.com with the code SFFPODCAST. #ad Th

  • S11E33 The Rah's Football/Music Special

    08/12/2021 Duración: 02h10min

For our latest Football/Music special, John is joined by singer Jack (@jackmcleodd) from East Lothian band The Rah's (@therahsmusic). Jack is a Hibs fan so there is chat about their Scottish Cup win in 2016, what it meant to his family and a best eleven of players he has seen in his lifetime. The band brought out album 'When Does It Become Real?' earlier this year and featured on Tim Burgess's Twitter Listening Parties so Jack tells us how that came about and also how their manager Sam got involved with the band. There is discussion around how the album came to being produced, the buzz of hearing your music played on TV and dream gig. As we're coming up for Christmas, there are some Christmas based questions and of course there is food chat too. Check the band out as they have just this week announced a headline tour and support Billy Mitchell at King Tut's on the 23rd December. • S11E32 St Andrew's Day Special

    30/11/2021 Duración: 02h34min

For our latest episode we have a treat in store with a mix of guests - Gary and James from band Dead Sea Souls, James from our Fantasy Football sponsors Supernova Terracewear and Robbie Hanratty who is a broadcast journalist. They join regulars Erin, John and Scott for one of the most bizarre episodes we've ever done. In a celebration of all things Scottish, we chat football, music, food, booze fashion and more. There are random stories about ice cream vans and what they used to sell apart from the standard stuff you'd expect. Dead Sea Souls talk about their comeback, upcoming single 'Two Houses' and the current Scottish music scene with a special shoutout for SAMAs Alternative/Rock best act Dictator who were recently on the podcast. They take questions from their peers and talk about their banter as a band and rival football fans. James gives us an insight in to how the brand came about, the influence that leads to products released and a flavour of what may be to come. Remember Christmas is round the cor

  • S11E31 SWNT Special: Ukraine and Spain Preview

    25/11/2021 Duración: 36min

It's another big week for the Scotland Women's National Team as they prepare for a massive World Cup qualifying double header at home to Ukraine and away to Spain. John B is joined by Leading The Line podcast host Chris Marshall and author Steven Lawther, who penned the book Arrival on the SWNT's adventures to Euro 2017 and World Cup 2019. This is without doubt Pedro Martinez Losa's toughest test in his reign as Scotland Manager and the guys give the lowdown on the campaign so far, recent changes in the squad caused by injury and the form of both opponents. They also give their thoughts on what our chances are of taking something from Spain, though the consensus is that just beating Ukraine would be a realistic aim to strengthen our grip on the crucial playoff spot. We end by allowing Chris to plug his podcast, a recommendation for those who enjoy the Women's game in Scotland, and for Steven to promote his book, an ideal Christmas present for avid readers who enjoyed the rise of the Scotland Women's National

  • S11E30 PG Ciarletta Football/Music Special

    23/11/2021 Duración: 01h43min

For our latest episode, regulars Erin, John and Scott M are joined by singer PG Ciarletta (@PGCiarletta on social media). Phil joins us do discuss his upcoming single "27" which comes out on 27/11/21 at 00:27. Check out his socials for details on how to presave the tune. We love a bit of self promo on the podcast and it might well be that Phil is better than us at it as he name drops his singles throughout the podcast. He discusses how the pandemic turned in to a positive for him, success in the alternative charts, musical inspirations and one of the best stories we've heard on the podcast regarding the gig that wasn't a gig. He's a big Scotland fan so football chat takes his on travels following them, interesting food choices and some absolute random chat about potatoes. The podcast concludes with our slow fire questions which have some new additions plus Phil giving us a six a side team of Scottish musicians. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the podcast in the form of questions and remember to che

  • S11E29 Ally Begg Book Plug

    19/11/2021 Duración: 01h09min

In our latest guest special, John B is joined by returning guest and fellow Aberdeen fan Ally Begg, who is on predominantly to talk about his latest book "Aberdeen European Nights." Before we get into the book chat, Ally recalls his memories of the late Bertie Auld and the laughs they shared during Ally's stint at Celtic TV in the mid noughties. Bertie enjoyed taunting Ally about the many defeats the Dons had to Celtic in that era. Onto more memorable times as an Aberdeen fan, Ally discusses the process into how the book idea came about, including a gentle nudge from wife Miriam, and the work involved in writing the chapters. He particularly goes into detail about interviewing opposition players like Johnny Metgod of Real Madrid and how great they were with their accounts from an opponents point of view, which gives the book a nice twist. Then of course, there's the stories from the players Ally grew up idolising and meeting them at the book launch, and he also had a few words of encouragement for future aut

  • S11E28 Scotland Double Header

    17/11/2021 Duración: 02h11min

It's another Scotland love-in podcast this week as the team reminisce about the last few days where Scotland not only qualified for the World Cup playoffs by winning in Moldova but went and made sure they were seeded in the draw by beating the tenth best team in the world, Denmark. F-Bomb John is the happy host, joined by semi-regular Scott, two-pies Krys, too drunk Josh, and special guest Tartan Scarf contributor James. Unsurprisingly most of the chat centres around the two Scotland matches. There's an in-depth discussion about the merits of pretty much all the players who have featured, how Scotland now seem to have a squad of players all proving their worth and not just a team, and how some players who didn't feature this month may or may not get back into the team. Competition for places is great, and a long way from where we were. We look forward to the playoffs in March and wonder which of the six teams will be visiting Hampden and how we probably don't fear any of them at this point. Unless you're K

  • S11E27 Football Manager Special

    11/11/2021 Duración: 02h15min

In our second podcast of the week we have Football Manager Research Team Manager for Scotland, Stuart Milne and writer of 'Scotland's Lost Clubs' Jeff Webb on. They join regulars John and Ross. This week, FM22 came out so we discuss the release, the evolution of the game, wonderkids and stars of the game who never quite made it in real life. Jeff gives us an insight in to his book which is available at most book stores online and in some shops too. Ideal for fans of Scottish football and beyond or as a gift (nudge, nudge). We discuss our memories of playing Football Manager and other football games. At the time of recording, there was speculation around Steven Gerrard going to Aston Villa. We discuss the impact of this for Rangers and who may replace him. There is chat about the league setup in Scotland too and in particular Colts teams. The podcast concludes with Stuart giving us a best eleven of Football Manager superstars. Remember you can get free shipping and 20% off any product at uk.manscaped.co

  • S11E26 Guest Special: Derek Rae

    09/11/2021 Duración: 01h58min

For our latest podcast we have the privilege of being joined by iconic commentator Derek Rae who returns after being on in season two of the podcast. The two John's, Erin and Scott M join from the regular squad. There is a wide range of football chat such as getting involved with EA Sports FIFA series of games and the importance of pronouncing someone's name correctly. We cover some of Derek's passions outside of football which involve music, language and more. Obviously we had to ask about favourite food and beer. There is chat about the Bundesliga and fan experience and what Scottish football could learn from Germany. See if you can figure out the recurring theme through the podcast which fans of a certain singer may work out. The podcast concludes with Derek giving us a best Aberdeen team from his lifetime which is made slightly more difficult by not being able to include any of the Gothenburg Greats. Thanks to everyone who provided questions for us to ask. Remember you can get free shipping and 20%

  • S11E25 Guest Special: Erin Boyle

    02/11/2021 Duración: 01h53min

In our latest episode John, Erin and Scott M are joined by poet Erin Boyle for another guest special. We're in good company as Erin was nominated this year for Scots Performer of the Year. We discuss the fantastic work she does with the Kano Foundation which helps get kids get a chance to visit Celtic Park for games. One of the key parts to this is the sense of community with all the various fundraising done to help out. Erin discusses her favourite moments as a Celtic fan, makes the regulars feel old and makes a chocking revelation about pies. They give us an insight in to what inspires their poetry and we discuss the disappointment that not as many kids are out in the park these days kicking a ball. There's a bit of banter throughout the podcast between the Aberdeen and Celtic fans on the podcast as we have a bit of a Scott Brown love in. To conclude the podcast we ask Erin some slowfire questions and she gives us a six a side team from her time supporting Celtic. Remember you can get free shipping an

We discuss how this can be improved further with more awareness of the game and even more media exposure to include SWPL2. The podcast concludes with Laura giving us a best six a side team of players she has played with. If you haven't been to a

  • S11E23 SWNT v Hungary Preview and SWPL Review

    21/10/2021 Duración: 51min

It's International weekend for the Scotland Women's National Team and John B is joined by commentator Stuart Mitchell, freelance reporter David Smith and returning guest Alan, aka Air Force Wan to preview Friday's World Cup qualifier against Hungary at Hampden. Alan was late on as he was busy washing his hair in anticipation of his competition prize from Supernova Terracewear. We review the opening two qualifiers, which saw a 2-0 away win against Friday's opponents and a resounding 7-1 win against the Faroe Islands on a historic evening at the Girls new home of Hampden Park. Even after just two games and in his first meeting with the girls, the impact of Pedro Martinez Losa hasn't gone unnoticed. With bigger challenges lying in waiting against Ukraine and Spain next month, the importance of victory on Friday is there for all to see, but the quality of the squad suggests there is lots to be positive about this Scotland team. The chat then moves onto review the SWPL 1 and 2 seasons so far, with both leagues p

  • S11E22 Guest Special: Dictator

    19/10/2021 Duración: 01h29min

In our second football/music special, we have Michael and Joe from West Lothian band Dictator join John for a blether. It's exciting times for the band as they have recently signed a record deal with Blackhall Records and they are preparing for their headline gig at Stereo in Glasgow. We discuss the influence that singers/bands from West Lothian are currently having in music and try to pinpoint exactly why things are so buzzing in that particular area currently. As Lewis Capaldi sang, 'There must be something in the water'. There are questions from our listeners and those who can't make the podcast which is fun as always. The six a side team chosen is a belter. Towards the end of the podcast we do the draw for the latest Supernova Terracewear (@supernovatwear on Twitter) competition where there are two bobble hats to be won. As Fantasy Football

  • S11E21 Steve Clarke Says I Do

    12/10/2021 Duración: 02h09min

We said before when we qualified for the Euros that we may not have a more magical moment but Saturday came close with many fans and players proclaiming it the 'Best Night Ever' For our latest podcast, regulars John, Erin, Ross and Scott are joined by debutant Alan and returning guests Josh and Kyle. There are some croaky voices, plenty of banter, some great debate and a great buzz overall. Making memories is a key feature as we discuss what it means to us, how much we love the current squad and Lyndon Dykes inspiration for his goal. • S11E20 Guest Special: Kyle Gunn

    05/10/2021 Duración: 01h36min

This week we have a treat as journalist, columnist, St Mirren fan and all round good guy Kyle Gunn joins the two John's and Erin. There is plenty to discuss with Scotland v Israel coming up on Saturday and we're all on the positivity bus. Who starts in defence is the biggest concern with Hanley being out? It's the biggest game since Serbia but we can't rely on a penalty shootout this time round. The other great debate is where Kyle's pal John McGinn plays in midfield. Kyle takes great pleasure in giving Aberdeen a slagging which is probably less so than some Dons fans. Can St Mirren achieve top six or even dare to dream of Europe? It will be 35 years since their 1987 Scottish Cup win so maybe it's written in the stars. We take a look at some interesting events in the last week of Scottish football including one of the most bizarre games ever at Pollok v Auchinleck Talbot. Social Media went in to meltdown before this podcast was recorded but it gave us time to get followers on Twitter to show us some of th

  • S11E19 Groundhopper Special

    30/09/2021 Duración: 01h59min

In our latest episode, John and Donald are joined by a couple of fine guests. We have Adam (@FitbaNomad) and Graeme (@GilesGraeme) on who have a passion for visiting different grounds in Scotland and on occasion further afield. We discuss how everyone makes their decision on what games to attend, is it location, fixture, derby or because they do a top pie? There is chat about the best pies on offer in Scotland and the reasons why fans are choosing to visit what were traditionally Non League grounds. The community aspect is a theme that has particular value as fans are treated well, sometimes allowed access to behind the scenes and even on the odd occasion given a free pint. In Scotland, groundhopping 'day' takes place this weekend in the East of Scotland so keep an eye out on those fixtures if you fancy visiting some different grounds. The guys discuss favourite experiences they've had on their travels and the worst experience is so hard to beat that no one else even competes. The podcast concludes with s

  • S11E18 Iona Fyfe Special

    28/09/2021 Duración: 01h54min

We love on the podcast celebrating Scottish football and we believe that we should also champion Scottish music from singers and bands. This week we have Iona Fyfe joining John, Erin and McGill for the first of our football/music specials. The last 18 months has seen many industries struggle due to Covid and the music industry was affected massively. A sector that brings so much to the economy and to society, just like football. We discuss how Iona got in to music, the things that she enjoys about football, music, if she had a Genie which she would have to shake off to get three wishes. Football and music have a feeling of community that bring us together and give us identity. It's okay to like different teams or bands but its important to be respectful of differing opinions though we may not always agree with them. There is the usual food chat which seems to give us the most controversy on the podcast so remember to let us all know how you eat your pizza or sandwich. We hope you enjoy this slightly dif

  • S11E17 No Longer Naive: African Football Special

It's really interesting as we talk about what could be done to improve the game in Africa behind the scenes. The chat leads on to the best African players to have played in Scotland and the impact they have made on our game. Between us we pick a best eleven which would certainly be entertaining to watch. We conclude the podcast with a rapid review of what's been going on in Scottish football. • S11E16 SWNT World Cup Preview Special

    16/09/2021 Duración: 53min

There was a last minute change in host as regular guest special host John B had to call in sick. With none of the regular Podcast team available, Leading The Line Podcast host Chris Marshall kindly stepped into the hosts chair and was joined by regular SWPL commentator Stuart Mitchell. The guys discuss the excitement and anticipation of the Scotland Women's National Team's upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches against Hungary on Friday and Faroe Islands at Hampden on Tuesday. It is Pedro Martinez Losa's first matches since taking over from Shelley Kerr in the summer and he's had to deal with a series of call offs, most notably to Caroline Weir, Kirsty Smith, Lucy Graham and Lisa Evans. The impact of those withdrawals are discussed but there is still a positive feeling that the squad we have is still capable enough of getting six points. With top seeds Spain still to come, these points are vital. As mentioned, the Women's side are now playing their qualifying matches at Hampden, and with tickets at just £10

    14/09/2021 Duración: 02h07min

For our latest episode John is joined by Ethan and Jeff who return after being on the Premiership Preview earlier in the season. Our main focus is to preview the Dundee derby with our guests being very complimentary about the opposition. We discuss the intriguing tactical battle, key players and favourite memories from the derby. Scotland recorded a massive win against Austria which means we know what we need to do to qualify for the playoffs. The suspension of Hanley for the Israel game is discussed, how the midfield is shaping up and the excitement around a strike partnership that is developing nicely. We cover some of the other weekend action in the Premiership, have some food chat, Lower League predictions game and more. Next month Jeff releases his book, Scotland's Lost Clubs so keep an eye out for that and he reveals he is in the process of writing a book about the Dundee derby. Remember you can get free shipping and 20% off any product at uk.manscaped.com with the code SFFPODCAST. #ad Thanks as a
