We couldn’t believe our ears when we first heard explicit language being broadcasted on cable television and radio. We were in awe the first time we walked through the mall with our children and had to cover their eyes from what was being displayed in the front windows of the stores. There was a time when the mere thought of a child being murdered outside of the womb being legal was so insane that it never crossed our mind. These things and many more are now just the sad reality of the day and times we are living in. Why has everything changed and why are things we never thought possible, the new normal? I couldn’t stop thinking about how many times at the end of the year we start seeing many different evangelists talking about what God has shown them for a word or direction for the year to come. I began to come up with a word for the corporate body to end this year and a direction to bring for the year to come. I had some ideas of what I felt the Lord was showing me about a corporate word but every time I would try to put it together I would get sidetracked. I had an idea that there was a message about moving forward and pressing on, not looking back, not getting defeated in things we weren’t able to accomplish but staying positive and pressing on no matter what. Trying to put this into words, I somehow found myself thinking about a passage of scripture where Jesus said, “and these things shall follow them”. The words “shall follow” stuck out to me like a sore thumb. Many times in scripture you will see that we are referred to as trees. The Bible specifically talks about the roots of those trees. Tree roots have two roles: To anchor the tree in the ground and to take up water, minerals, and nutrients from the soil to help the tree grow. The dictionary describes “root” as being the origin or the source of something, while “rooted” is said to establish deeply or firmly. We are getting ready for the new year with our “Get Ready” series. Every new year we make resolutions we plan to keep or set goals for the year to come but what happens when we don’t keep the resolutions and we steer off course? What about the goals we had set for last year, only to fall short of meeting them? The bottom line is that we don’t always stick to what we wanted to do or meet the goals that we set for ourselves. The enemies job is to make us feel like failures so that we don’t want to “Keep Keeping On” or as Paul would say to fight the good fight. When he makes us feel like we didn’t accomplish anything, we feel like giving up. If all we do is focus on the negative things from the last year, that is exactly what will happen. An episode over a year in the making. For those of you who have been with us from the beginning, you may remember back when we first met Billy Bob and how mad he got when he first saw Ever wearing an evertee that said “Judge Me” on the back of it. You see just like most of society today, Billy Bob thought the Bible simply instructed us that in no way shape or form are we allowed to judge. Most people will use Matthew 7:1 which says “Judge not, that ye be not judged”. The problem is that people stop reading after this one verse and fail to continue on in the word. If you continue reading Matthew 7, you will see that we are then taught how we are supposed to Judge. This is only one of many scriptures that refer to Judging.
