Many times in scripture you will see that we are referred to as trees. The Bible specifically talks about the roots of those trees. Tree roots have two roles: To anchor the tree in the ground and to take up water, minerals and nutrients from the soil to help the tree grow. The dictionary describes “root” as being the origin or the source of something, while “rooted” is said to establish deeply or firmly. How many times have you tried to do something on your own, only to realize you cannot do it by yourself? Many things seem to be impossible, and on our own, many are. One of the most important things that we can do is to learn to be led by the Spirit. We hit the road again this past week, looking for a new church. We were not able to find what we were looking for but ended up stopping at a small Baptist church in hopes of at least getting fed a good word before going home. The church was beautiful and full of history. It was also full of religion, but one thing that it wasn't full of was the Spirit. Why is it important to be led by the spirit? When we pray we always say "thy will be done". After all, we know that is how the Bible instructs us to pray. In Matthew it says "for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him". However, the problem is that we sometimes say one thing with our mouth but do another thing with our actions. When the answers to our prayers come into our life and they aren't what we were expecting or exactly what we asked for, we have a tendency to think it can't be from God. We have to learn to fully submit our words and our thoughts over to God so that when we pray "thy will be done" we aren't really saying "my will be done". Sometimes we can get emotionally attached to a worship song without even knowing it. This can be a real problem if the words we are singing aren't scripturally accurate.
