  • Senator Matt Canavan: Time to Say No to Net Zero

    31/08/2025 Duración: 11min

Mike speaks with Matt Canavan, Nationals Senator for Queensland, about his push to end the Coalition’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. Canavan argues Australians have never voted for net zero and that the policy is crippling key industries such as urea, plastics, nickel, steel and aluminium—many surviving only on taxpayer subsidies. He says energy prices are soaring, reliability is collapsing, and Australia can no longer feed itself. According to Canavan, net zero is futile as major nations like China, the US, Britain, and New Zealand are either ignoring or retreating from the policy. He claims Labor is “selling out Australia” and that net zero is dragging down wages, driving up costs, and hurting families. His message is blunt: it’s time to just say no to net zero.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  • Proposed spare room tax isn't a silver bullet

    31/08/2025 Duración: 09min

A controversial new tax plan floated at the government’s productivity round table could see Aussie homeowners taxed on spare rooms they’re not using. Mike is joined by Property Investment Expert Garth Davis, who says the “crazy” idea won’t fix Australia’s housing crisis. “If the government wants to help then it should be taxing empty houses, not empty bedrooms,” Garth says. “This won’t work – there is a cost to selling, real estate fees, moving fees etc, then there’s the cost of stamp duty to buy another home to downsize… there’s no incentive for homeowners.” In Australia 70% of the adult population are homeowners and 30% are renters. “We need to target empty homes that are vacant for months and years, owned by wealthy foreign investors who have no intention of renting the property out,” Garth added. “Instead of a spare room tax, why not incentive people to rent rooms out?”See omnystudio.com/list

  • Narcissist… or just selfish and self-involved?

    31/08/2025 Duración: 09min

Narcissist is a term that I hear a lot from people before I start mediation. Lisanne Iriks, Conflict Resolution Specialist & Founder The Co-Parenting Institute tells Mike that while she can’t diagnose anyone as she's not qualified to do so, she thinks we need to be mindful that only approximately =. 6 per cent of the population are actual narcissists. The word itself has become a pop psychology term, which I believe is overused, because often people are just selfish, self-involved, or angry about a separation orsituation. Lisanne can help teach people how to communicate with someone who in their experienceis self-focused, defensive, or unwilling to take responsibility. Here’s her top tips:1. Don’t take the bait. If they provoke, you don’t need to react.2. Stay neutral. Keep your tone calm and your language focused.3. Set clear boundaries. You don’t have to justify them, just stick to them.4. Get support. With a mediator or therapist.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy info
