  • Berkreviews Movie Club - Boogie Nights

    13/05/2018 Duración: 01h18min

Berkreviews.com Movie Club episode 070 - Boogie Nights (1997) This episode of Movie Club continues with Paul Thomas Anderson month. Corey (@coreyrstarr) selected Boogie Nights (1997) starring Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, Nicole Ari Parker, and Don Cheadle. Jonathan (@berkreviews) saw it when he was in high school but definitely didn't remember much of it. The downside to PTA month is definitely the length of his films. This one is over 2 hrs and 30 minutes but fortunately is available to watch on Netflix. Next Weeks Episode - Magnolia (1999) Again, PTA seems to make his films longer early in his career and Magnolia - starring Tom Cruise, Jason Robards, and Julianne Moore - is three hours long. We'll be renting this one from one of the digital services as it's not available on any of the streaming services we subscribe to. • Berkreviews Movie Club Episode 069 - Inherent Vice

    06/05/2018 Duración: 01h07min

Berkreviews.com Movie Club episode 069 - Inherent Vice (2014) We are in May and that means there is a new theme for Movie Club. Paul Thomas Anderson is a director that Jonathan (@berkreviews) needs to explore more of and thus a theme was born. To start the month off, Jonathan and Corey (@coreyrstarr) picked Inherent Vice from 2014 starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, and Joanna Newsom. Corey had seen this one before, but it was the first viewing for Jonathan. Their interpretations of the film are quite different, too. Next episode: Boogie Nights (1997) Continuing the exploration of PTA, Corey selected Boogie Nights (1997) starring Mark Wahlberg, Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds, Don Cheadle, and John C. Reilly. Jonathan actually saw this when he was in high school, but definitely hasn't watched it with a critical eye. Berkreviews.com Moviecast Top Five Movies - episode 098 - Look Away For episode 098, Jonathan (@berkreviews), Michael (@servermonkey), and Corey (@coreyrstarr) decided to look at the moments from films that they just couldn't watch. These are moments where they just had to Look Away from the screen whether it was too gruesome, too scary, or just too bizarre and uncomfortable to watch. There are plenty of moments to choose from in the history of film, but these are the ones that stood out to the trio. Jonathan's list: 5. American Wedding (2003) 4. Trainspotting (1996) 3. • Berkreviews Movie Club - The Last Unicorn

    29/04/2018 Duración: 55min

Berkreviews.com Movie Club episode 068 - The Last Unicorn Corey (@coreyrstarr) got to pick the final movie for April's '80s films. She selected The Last Unicorn (1982) directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. starring Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges, Alan Arkin, Christopher Lee, and Angela Lansbury. Jonathan (@berkreviews) has never seen this film either, though he sounds as though he would never have picked it. Could exhaustion and a bad day have impacted his take on this apparently beloved classic animated film? Listen to find out! Next episode - Inherent Vice (2014) The month of May brings a new theme to Movie Club: Paul Thomas Anderson movies! It became clear when Phantom Thread came out last year that Jonathan had some major gaps in PTA's filmography. Thus, May was selected to be a place to fix that. Inherent Vice (starring Katherine Waterston, Joaquin Phoenix, and Josh Brolin among many others) was the first one he selected to knock off. 26/04/2018 Duración: 52min

Berkreviews.com Moviecast Top Five Movies episode 097 - Pablo Bryant During the Florida Film Festival, Jonathan was able to catch Mr. Fish: Cartooning From The Deep End (2017). Jonathan really enjoyed the documentary so he reached out the director, Pablo Bryant, to see if he'd like to come on the show. They got together and discussed how the film came to be, how he got into filmmaking, and other related topics. Before departing, Pablo shared his reluctant all-time Top Five Movie list. • Berkreviews Movie Club ep 067 - My Neighbor Totoro

    22/04/2018 Duración: 01h11min

Berkreviews.com Movie Club episode 067 - My Neighbor Totoro Continuing with the theme of '80s movies, Jonathan (@berkreviews) picked My Neighbor Totoro (1988) directed by Hayao Miyazaki starring Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, and Tim Daly. Corey (@coreyrstarr) had also never seen this film or any other Studio Ghibli film so this was a big episode for both. Jonathan had seen Spirited Away several times and is a fan of that movie, but is lacking experience with the rest. The icon character of Totoro needed to be seen! Next Episode: The Last Unicorn The last episode in their '80s exploration will be The Last Unicorn (1982). The film is directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. and stars Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, and Angela Lansbury. It's a movie that Jonathan hadn't heard of, but Corey found on a list of must-see '80s movies. At the time of recording, The Last Unicorn is available to stream on Amazon Prime. • Top Five Movies Episode 096 - 2018 Summer Movie Draft

    19/04/2018 Duración: 01h29min

Berkreviews.com Moviecast Top Five Movies episode 096 - 2018 Summer Movie Draft This episode has Jonathan (@berkreviews), Corey (@coreyrstarr), and Michael (@servermonkey) joined with Matt Hudson (@wiwt_uk) and Craig Sybert (@MusicMusing_) to draft the 2018 Summer movies. This works a lot like a fantasy football draft where each person picks one movie for five rounds that will represent their team. Each player earns points for their movies based on the Domestic Summer Box Office from Boxofficemojo.com and the movie's Metascore from Metacritic.com used as a percent. We drop the excess zeroes to keep the point totals relatively simple. The players have a chance to earn bonus points based on the Over/Under system. The average domestic gross for the top 25 movies from last summer was $130,000,000. A player must guess if each of their movies will be over or under that total. They earn bonus points for each one they get right on a shifting scale. You can follow along with the game all summ --- Support this pod

Berkreviews.com Movie Club episode 066 - Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) As part of our '80s month theme, Corey (@coreyrstarr) selected Coal Miner's Daughter that neither her nor Jonathan (@berkreviews) had seen. The movie is directed by Michael Apted starring Sissy Spacek, Tommy Lee Jones, and Levon Helm. Spacek plays Loretta Lynn and Jones her husband going through the personal relationship and eventually her career as a musician. 08/04/2018 Duración: 01h03min

Berk Reviews Movie Club episode 065 - Paris, Texas (1984) For year 2 of Berkreviews.com Movie Club, the month of April has Jonathan (@berkreviews) and Corey (@coreyrstarr) picking movies from the '80s that they've missed for some reason or another. Of course, that leaves a lot of movies to choose from and they have to narrow it down to only four for the month. Jonathan picked Paris, Texas (1984) because the film was talked about so much after Harry Dean Stanton's passing that it'd been on his radar for a while now. The film is directed by Wim Wenders and written by Sam Shepard starring Harry Dean Stanton, Nastassja Kinski, Dean Stockwell, Aurore Clément, and Hunter Carson. This was a first time viewing for both Corey and Jonathan and each seemed to enjoy it. Next episode: Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) Corey picked Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) for next week. It is directed by Michael Apted and stars Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones.
