Leading up to my epic interview of her about the major Oz Comic Con in Australia this past week which she covered, I have a fantastic conversation as the sun comes up over the East Coast of the USA with BrittGirl about what it’s like to be a 23-year-old fan of comic book movies who grew up with the (so-so) prequels but has gotten more fully engaged with Star Wars with the recent great films, The Force Awakens and Rogue One. While different generations by definition have different experiences growing up with Star Wars, the central themes and awesomeness always comes across eventually, setting itself to go far beyond its 40 years of existence and deep into the future. Ok so first of all, let’s get one thing straight: I’m a Marvel boy, born and bred. And DC is going to have to do a lot more than the amazing “Wonder Woman” to prove that they can pull of a DC Expanded Universe (DCEU) that’s a true rival to the massively successful Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the titanic cultural cache of the DC “Holy Trinity” — Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman — means that they can screw up often and still not lose their huge audience when they finally drop a great movie like “Wonder Woman” and hopefully “Justice League” and others going forward. Looking at social trends in the comic book side of things as well as film slates going forward, I think Marvel has good reason to at least entertain fearing DC’s potential moving forward. Although it could never lived up to the original (and clearly doesn't), "GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2" ended up exceeding my admittedly guarded expectations. A little too colorful for its own good, not enough action, not enough funny Chris Pratt, and yet another Marvel villain problem hold this movie back from being a great superhero movie. But with spectacular performances from Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, and especially the amazing Michael Rooker, there's still lot of heart and fun to be had here.
