Sinopsis

The long and short of it is that the three of us started getting together every Wednesday morning to drink coffee, take a break and figure out how we were going to make an impact (and how we could work together to do so). We called it 'Solving the World's Problems Coffee Hour'. We chatted about all kinds of ideas: research, new workouts, combining things, and crazy ideas we heard on podcasts. Then it dawned on us. We should start a podcast. Yep, that is how we thought we might be able to make a dent into the worlds problems (it all starts with a dent, right?) So here we are now. Several months of planning, brainstorming and politely asking Kyle's friend Justin (the awesome AV guy) if he could help us out. So what it's all about is that Clinically Pressed is going to be a traveling podcast and we will be recording on location. We are going to interview experts around the country from all health/nutrition/performance professions as well as include round table discussions covering major topics and questions. Our goal is to provide as much information as we can that is useful to viewers/listeners, and do it all at no cost. We want to make the complicated simple and make it something you can apply to your life. We hope you enjoy!

  • Research Review: Pressure to Return from Concussion

    13/10/2022 Duración: 08min

Concussions have been brought into the spotlight again with some high profile injuries. In a podcast on ATChat we talked with Dr. Julie Stamm, a concussion expert, and she mentioned the pressure felt by providers to return patients faster than they were ready. We highlight a study she worked on showing how common that pressure is and what it means for the potential risks to the health and safety of patients and athletes. See what they found in this Research Review. Source: Kroshus, E., Baugh, C. M., Daneshvar, D. H., Stamm, J. M., Laursen, R. M., & Austin, S. B. (2015). • CI: Shifting Baseline Syndrome

    05/10/2022 Duración: 10min

We get set and comfortable each time we grow and evolve. This establishes a new baseline for us and that can be great for personal growth. But it can cause problems if we are unable to realize that not everyone grows with us at the same rate or if we work with student/patients, we might have to start over each time we have someone new. In this Insight we talk about how we have to be aware of our baselines, how it shifts, and how we need to keep working with others to meet them where they are. • LI: Administrative Leadership

    20/06/2022 Duración: 12min

Being in administration doesn’t automatically make you a leader. Being a leader doesn’t always mean you’re in administration. An administrative position doesn’t necessarily mean a position of leadership and this can be key in how you communicate with your team and those who report to you. Being able to remain humble and continue to focus on your team and developing their human capital will be a game changer in how you interact with staff and the people you serve. • Research Review: Nutritional Triage Theory

    02/06/2022 Duración: 09min

This concept came up in a recent episode of Barbell Shrugged and it is the theory of nutritional triage. The basic premise is that if there is a deficiency in micronutrients the body will triage and move micronutrient usage to short-term needs while neglecting long-term requirements of that nutrition. This can be good in short bouts but over the long-term these sub clinical deficiencies can cause serious problems that may go unnoticed unless looked for specifically or until they become a major problem. This article highlights the importance of vitamin K. Source: McCann, J. C. & Ames, B. N. (2009). Vitamin K, an example of triage theory: Is micronutrient inadequacy linked to diseases of aging. • CP Short-WWAR: Nudge

    06/05/2022 Duración: 13min

It can be hard to get people to do things, but are there ways to try and get people more likely to do things? This book takes a look at that, can be ‘nudge’ people to make decisions that can help them and beyond. Opt in vs opt out, anchoring, fear of loss, systems and regression to the norm. • REPLAY: Clinical Insight: Chronic Pain and the Radiculo-Neuropathic Myofascial Pain Model

    22/03/2022 Duración: 16min

In this Clinical Insight we take a shallow dive into the Radiculo-Neuropathic Myofascial Pain Model. This model was heavily influenced by Dr. Chan Gunn. It is a very solid model in the evaluation and treatment of chronic pain as it takes into consideration a lot of key components that play a role in the production of chronic pain. We talk through how the combination of Cannon’s Law, denervation and other factors play a role in chronic pain based on how this model describes it. At the end we discuss what are some practical recommendations that you can try immediately to see if there is something you can do if you are dealing with chronic pain.    Check it out, leave a comment and we will continue the discussion as well as we can to keep helping make the complicated simple.   BOOK LINK: Treatment of Chronic Pain (https://amzn.to/3agkT3m)   #Podcast #Clinically #Pressed #Wellness #Performance #Nutrition #ComplicatedSimple #Science #fitness #health #strength #athletics #medical #training #exer

  • Research Review: Anecdote vs. Statistical Information

    17/02/2022 Duración: 09min

Trying to convince someone that a certain technique, item or program is the most effective can be a daunting task. There are many ways in which to communicate the information but which way is most effective? Telling stories and testimonials? Or getting them the hard facts and statistics about why something works? In this research review we looks at that very question and provides some insight on when and where to use different types of information to help make your case. Reference: Freling, T. • WWAR: The Four Hour Body-Tim Ferriss

    04/02/2022 Duración: 07min

The title is meant to be as catchy as it is but the content is still solid and worth digging into. Tim Ferriss breaks down many areas of health and fitness and how you can implement those ideas with the minimal amount of time required, i.e. the 4 hour body. Whether you are looking to drop a few pounds or gain a few pounds of muscle, there is a way to try and do it with the minimal effective dose. • CI: Structured Principles w/ Flexibility

    26/01/2022 Duración: 12min

It can be great to have protocols and principles you work off of but if they become too rigid it can cause issues with either rushing someone or holding them back unnecessarily. In this Insight we talk about having structured principles while also maintaining some flexibility and reserving the right to change your mind or change course when the situation calls for it. • CI: What is NEW is OLD

    05/01/2022 Duración: 08min

Very little is new in the worlds of strength & conditioning/nutrition/fitness/performance yet, more and more seems to be coming out. How is that? Well most of it is in the interpretation, consolidation, and ultimately implementation of this information that can make it new and effective. It is ok for practitioners not to discover the “next big thing” if you can collect ideas and thoughts and ultimately apply it to the individuals you work with. This can make you highly adaptable and useful to those you serve (or you should look for this in someone if searching for services). Being able to take different ideas and utilize them with the people you work with can make you most effective as you don’t force something on to someone when it doesn’t fit. • Research Review: Exercise Snacks

    23/12/2021 Duración: 10min

This research review looks at a study that utilized “research snacks” to see the effects on insulin, glucose and free fatty acids after melas throughout the day. These “snacks” consisted of ascending 3 flights of stairs as fast as possible every hour throughout the day. Each time would take between 10-20s. The results showed that for an overweight and obese group there was a decrease in insulin and free fatty acid levels, no changes in these levels occurred in a healthy group. Interesting concept to help control blood levels with a minimal amount of effort throughout the day. Check it out. Fafiei, H., Omidian, K., Myette-Cote, E., & Little, J.P. (2020).
