Episode #221: Amplify Your Introduction Requests
01/03/2018 Duración: 03minIf you’re asking for a warm introduction to somebody, you might do what I’ve done successfully a number of times, which is to browse your contact’s LinkedIn connections, find people of interest and then reach out with a connection request. However, when your contact has thousands of connections, this can become quite the task, nor is there any way to find out just how well connected they are to these people - I often get the response “oh, I don’t actually really know the person of interest”, as is the case with most social networks. Find out what to ask instead in today's instalment of Fast Fix Friday. --- Join the conversation on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/futuresquared/ where you can discuss episodes, request guests, propose questions for forthcoming guests and access exclusive content and special offers! Episode #217: How to Have More FInishing Kicks to Increase your Productivity
15/02/2018 Duración: 04minI recently interviewed Alex Hutchinson, author of Endure: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance. Almost a decade ago, Ross Tucker and his colleagues at the University of Cape Town published a striking graph showing the average pacing strategies in men’s middle- and long-distance track world records over the past century: The patterns are remarkably consistent. In the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, the first and last parts of the race are the fastest—of the 66 records set in the modern era in these two events, only once (Paul Tergat in 1997) has any kilometer other than the first or last been the fastest. Alex calls this tendency to speed up as we approach the finishing line ‘the finishing kick’, and it can be found not only in endurance sports, but weightlifting, and if you look closely enough, the workplace. --- Join the discussion @ facebook.com/futuresquaredpodcast Listen on iTunes @ goo.gl/sMnEa0 Listen on Stitcher @ www.stitcher.com/podcast/future Li

Episode #208: How to Set and Achieve Your Goals
11/01/2018 Duración: 07minWelcome back for another big year of Future Squared and a very happy new year to you, I hope that this year brings you prosperity, growth, fullfillment and fun both in your professional and personal life! In the very first instalment of Fast Fix Friday for the year, I thought it would make sense to talk about your goals for the year - not only how to set them but some things you might want to put into place to help you achieve them! We’ve all made resolutions, or quote unquote committed to achieving certain goals in the past, but often fallen short - I’ve talked about cognitive biases in previous episodes of the show, and the optimist illusion, which bitcoin and cryptocurrency expert Andreas Antonopolous reminded us of in episode #167, often lulls us into thinking we’ll achieve said goals and therefore we rely too much on willpower, which oftentimes, especially when there’s so many other things going on in our lives, simply isn’t enough. In this episode, I talk setting goals and putting in place measures of a

Episode #207: Stop Doing the Wrong Things Right with the Five Whys
21/12/2017 Duración: 06minWelcome back for episode #207 of Future Squared for what is the last instalment of Fast Fix Friday, in fact the last instalment of Future Squared for the year. 2017 was a huge year for the entire team here at Collective Campus. Before I get into this week’s fast fix insights, I’d just like to extend a very warm thank you for listening this year. Without you, this show simply wouldn’t exist because there would be no purpose in it existing. --- “There is nothing worse than doing the wrong things right” - Peter Drucker. In recent times when Eric Ries met with senior executives at Toyota, famed for their lean production system, they echoed Drucker’s words and said “we’ve got a system for efficiently producing widgets but we don’t have a system for deciding what to produce in the first place”. Yes, whatever decision you are making in life it’s important to determine whether you are focusing on the right decision in the first place. Thus is the nature of today's instalment of Fast Fix Friday. --- Listen on iT

Episode #206: How to make Better Decisions
14/12/2017 Duración: 07minEvery day we’re tasked with making decisions. Most of the time, these decisions are small (like deciding whether or not to floss today). However, small things done consistently poorly versus consistently well over the long-term can have a devastating impact on where you end up, whether in business or in life. It’s kind of like the power of compound interest. I’m no dentist but it’s pretty common knowledge that if you decide not to floss every single day then you’re staring down the barrel of bleeding gums, halitosis, premature tooth loss and yellow teeth, not to mention the link made between flossing and cancer prevention. Similarly, within the context of the office, if I decide to check my email every 10 minutes it might seem like no big deal. “It only takes a second!” you insist. But if checking my email, every 10 minutes, every single day, means that I’m constantly distracted by responding to other people’s demands on my time, and I never give my brain the space to get into ‘the zone’ and engage in what a

Episode #205: Tim O’Reilly on What’s The Future (WTF?)
09/12/2017 Duración: 51minTim O’Reilly popularised the terms Open Source and Web 2.0 He is the founder and CEO of O’Reilly Media which delivers online learning, publishes books, runs conferences, urges companies to create more value than they capture, and tries to change the world by spreading and amplifying the knowledge of innovators.Tim has a history of convening conversations that reshape the computer industry. In 1998, he organized the meeting where the term “open source software” was agreed on, and helped the business world understand its importance. In 2004, with the Web 2.0 Summit, he defined how “Web 2.0” represented not only the resurgence of the web after the dot com bust, but a new model for the computer industry, based on big data, collective intelligence, and the internet as a platform. In 2009, with his “Gov 2.0 Summit,” he framed a conversation about the modernization of government technology that has shaped policy and spawned initiatives at the Federal, State, and local level, and around the world. He has now turned h

Episode #204: 5 Ways Investment Can Kill Innovation
07/12/2017 Duración: 05minCollective Campus in its third year now and in that time I’m proud to say that, unlike other consultancies and education providers that have come (and gone already in many cases), we didn’t start out with fundraising as a key priority. It still isn’t. We started by focusing on finding our value proposition and delivering on it in a cashflow positive way. Over the course of the first 18 months we built a seven figure business, then with what was just a team of four (soon to be a team of nine), but the purpose of this blog is not to chest-beat, it is to paint a picture and deliver some important lessons. By not tapping into funding early, we were operating under conditions of serious constraint. Both my co-founder Sean and I didn’t pay ourselves anything in the first 12 months of operating, opting instead for side gigs and part time shows to keep the lights on - literally - and we had to be creative with hiring, incentivisation and marketing - opting for free third party platforms and quid pro quo arrangements
