This time on the show we’re going to hear from 11 musicians performing on Make Music Day, Monday, June 21.  Make Music Day started in France in 1982 and is now celebrated in 1000+ cities in 120 countries across the globe. This year, for the first time, Kansas City is part of the celebration. The event is a day of FREE music, concerts, and events that stretch from Lemonade Park in The West Bottoms to Knuckleheads in The East Bottoms, and from Kansas City International Airport to 18th & Vine. Hundreds of musicians, of all backgrounds will perform, from classically trained musicians in the The Kansas City Symphony to 16 year old singer/songwriters like Kate Whitefield and the students from School of Rock. 

This week on the Eight One Sixty, we'll celebrate Record Store Day: Drop #1 happening this Saturday, June 12.Are you familiar with Record Store Day? It’s been happening around the world since 2007 and it’s a day to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store. Here in KC, we are blessed with so many great record stores.Have you seen the list of Record Store Day exclusives for this drop? It’s massive and filled with great stuff. We'll run through some highlights from the list and play music from them. We’ll hear from Conor Oberst, Ben Howard, HAIM, Lupe Fiasco, Beck, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and The Chemical Brothers.We’ll also hear from two acts that just announced massive tours with KC dates - Garbage, at T-Mobile Center on Sunday, Sept. 19 with Alanis Morissette and Liz Phair. Record Store Day this year is in two parts, and part two is on July 17. Today is all about the Concert Calendar, music fans wondered throughout the pandemic, when would all of the concerts come back... well, they’re back! More and more shows are being announced every day and just this morning two more massive concerts were announced:Foo Fighters with Radkey at Azura Credit Union Amphitheater on August 5 and Alanis Morissette with Garbage and Liz Phair on September 19 at T-Mobile Center.On the show today we’ll play music from 10 acts and run through highlights from KC venues, and more.

New Music May continues on the Eight One Sixty! For the third week in a row, Chris plays new and recently released music from 10+ KC area musicians.We’ll jump in first with one from 2020 from Blackstarkids, as they’re having the best week ever! They’re going out on tour with GROUPLOVE, including a stop at Liberty Hall in Lawrence on Sept. 22, and they also just got added to the lineup (along with Radkey) for the massive Riot Fest in Chicago.Then we'll move onto some heavy hitters, with new stuff from Making Movies and Kemet Coleman. It's another New Music Tuesday on the Eight One Sixty this week! We’ve been saying it for nearly a year now, but despite the pandemic, it’s amazing how so many musicians are finding ways to put out new music during these crazy times. We’ll start the show with music from a young KC musician named PmBata, who blew up this month on Spotify and Tik Tok. Their song Roadtrip debuted in the top 5 on Spotify, where it’s already racked up more than 13 million spins since Feb. 5 — that’s over a million spins a day! We’ll also hear brand new music from Edison Lights, Mensa Deathsquad, Quiet Takes, Alisa Jefferson, J Jerome, Christena Graves, David Luther, Blue False Indigo, Nan + The One Nite Stands, and we’ll hear a little Fat Tuesday music from the Back Alley Brass Band.

On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, Chris takes a deep dive into the Folk Unlocked Virtual Conference. This year would've marked the return of the Folk Alliance International Conference to Kansas City, after spending the last two years in Canada and New Orleans. The physical return to KC will have to wait till 2022, but the good people at Folk Alliance are NOT taking the year off. Instead, they've curated and created an amazing virtual conference from Feb. 22 through 25. Like the in-person conference, the virtual event will feature musicians from countries all over the world.
