On this week's episode of Eight One Sixty, we're joined by film critic and blogger Eric Melin of Scene Stealers Movie Reviews to talk about the Kansas City Oscars watch party on Sunday, Feb. 24. Eric and Chris look back on times the Oscars got it wrong — and a few times they got it right.

Our very own Sarah Bradshaw is having a baby next week and she’s going to be away from the show for a few months so we wanted to do something special for her on this show. We play music about being a mom and celebrate Sarah and her baby. We hear from some great KC mama musicians like Heidi Lynne Gluck, Kristie Stremel, Havilah Bruders, Kasey Rausch and a great song about becoming a parent from The Grisly Hand. We add in some songs from other Bridge acts that talk about being a parent too. It's a great time and we’re so excited for Sarah and her family!

This week’s EIGHT ONE SIXTY is a special one. William Elliott Whitmore is stopping by the show and then he’s playing at recordBar after. In addition to hanging out with Will it’s also PLEDGE WEEK and Chris had a huge stack of tix to giveaway to say THANKS for your pledges. If you don’t know Will, he’s an amazing singer-songwriter with whiskey and gravel soaked vocals, he’s from Southern Iowa, he’s signed to Bloodshot Records, he’s played Middle of the Map Fest three times, he played Folk Alliance International and he’s an all around great guy. 

We welcome special guests, The Snow Globes into the studio! We squeeze an upright bass and some guitars into our studios and they play a couple songs for us live on the air. We talk about their FREE concert on Thursday night at Village Presbyterian Church. We also talk about The Wash Project, the amazing charity that The Snow Globes support with their music, live shows and CD purchases. After that we turn things up a bit and play some new music from SUCH LUCK- from an EP that comes out in Spring 2019. We play a new one from Radkey- you can catch them at recordBar on December 21. We also hear one from Hipshot Killer who are one of seven bands playing the 4th annual How The Punks Stole Xmas Toy Drive for Hope House  on Friday, December 7 at Revolution Records Kansas City. And we wrap up the show with music from the great, William Elliott Whitmore from South Lee County Iowa - you can catch him at recordBar next Tuesday, December 11.

We sit down with Bill Brownlee and talk about his BEST OF 2018. Brownlee freelances for The Star, he has blogs about music and jazz and he goes to more concerts than almost anyone we know. We hear music and talk about these musicians with KC connections: Logan Richardson, Kelly Hunt, Tech N9ne, Peter Schlamb and Stephonne. We also talk about some non-KC acts as well and hear about some of Bill's favorite concerts of 2018. 

It’s a holiday for us at the EIGHT ONE SIXTY as we celebrate Mark Manning Day!  Do you know Mark Manning? He’s an amazing person, a radio show host on KKFI 90.1 FM, a philanthropist, a teacher, an amazing community leader and several other things as well. Every year he counts down his 100+ favorite songs of the year on his radio show the Wednesday MidDay Medley, every wednesday from 10AM-noon on 90.1 KKFI.  We get a sneak peek at some of his favorite songs of 2018 and we look back at 2018 to talk about the year in music. It’s always a great time when he’s in our studio! Also, Jon Hart will be joining us to co-host the show!

We kick off the show with Billy Brimblecom Jr. to talk about Thundergong, happening this Saturday in KC at Uptown Theater featuring special guests Chance The Rapper, Jason Sudeikis, Will Forte and more. We turn our attention to a 2-day fest happening in KC this weekend at recordBar called Outer Reaches. The fest showcases the ‘out there’, left-of-center, under-the-radar artists experimenting within and pushing boundaries in their respective genre. The fest features nearly 20 acts, some from right here in KC and some from as far away as Australia. Joining us on the show will be two of the fest organizers, Brenton Cook of Haymaker Records and Steve Tulipana of several music projects and co-owner of recordBar. We hear music from Sound of Ceres, Mysterious Clouds, Lava Dreams, Death Bells, Abandoned Bells and J Fernandez, all are playing the fest. After that, ICYMI, election day is coming up on Tuesday, November 6. We play a brand new song by Bob & Una Walkenhorst about that (it’s so good) and you can catch Una Walkenhorst at Bier Station on November 7 and then a song from Amy Farrand and The Like who are playing a fundraiser show for Sharice Davids this Thursday at recordBar.

Two musicians playing at Groovefest this saturday at Knuckleheads join us on this show! Damon Parker of The MGDs and Sean McDonnell of Stone Cutters Union are in the studio and we talk to them about the event and play music from their bands as well as other bands on the bill: Andy Frasco, The Band That Saved The World, and The Kris Lager Band. Tonight's show is about TWO great events! First up, we announce the lineup for the annual Apocalypse Meow 11, it’s the huge fundraiser concert for Midwest Music Foundation. We talk about the event and play music from some of the acts on the bill. and the second great event is this weekend, it’s the mega-huge weekend of Open Spaces KC at Starlight Theatre this weekend featuring so many great acts, we talk about it and play music from several of them. Friday: The Roots, The Soul Rebels, Red Baraat Saturday: Janelle Monáe, Marcus Lewis Big Band, The McFadden Brothers, Sankofa Danza y Percusión Africana Sunday: Vijay Iyer Sextet, Hermon Mehari Quartet, dakhabrakha, Innov Gnawa It's a fun show and we also throw some more in there too, kicking things off with The Appleseed Cast who are playing the huge 25th anniversary weekend at Replay Lounge on October 26. 

On this show it’s all about new music! Our inbox was full and we share new music from several different acts with you. We welcome back to KC, special guest Danny McGaw! He lived and played music around KC and Lawrence for years but currently calls California home. He's in town this week for some gigs and to be part of the 87th Annual Plaza Art Fair. Danny brought his guitar and plays for us live in our studio. He’s one of 23 musicians that will play on Ink Magazine’s Stage at The Art Fair, Sept. 21-23. It's a long awaited show as we sit down with one of our favorite musicians, Calvin Arsenia. This is a HUGE week for Calvin as he’s celebrating the release of his new album, Cantaloupe (Calvin Arsenia Cantaloupe Album Release Show) with a massive release show on Saturday, September 15. He along with a dozen+ other musicians will host an amazing evening at The Gem Theater in the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. We preview his brand new album as well as play music from a couple of the musicians joining him on stage, Krystle Warren and J Ashley Miller (Jametatone). It’s all about this Saturday’s 14th Annual KKFI Crossroads Music Fest 2018 presented by Lead Bank this time on the Eight One Sixty. CMFKC founder, Bill Sundahl will join us to talk about the fest and to play music from several bands playing the event this Saturday, September 8, featuring 30 bands across 8 stages in the KC Crossroads Arts District. We sit down with special guests Radkey this time on the show! These guys have gigged all over the world and they were recently featured in a huge tv commercial that led to them opening up for Jack White on his most recent tour. It’s a double-header this time on the Eight One Sixty! First up Emmaline Twist will be in the studio with us, hanging out and previewing their brand new album, "Dissimulation". After that Shaun Crowley of Manor Records will stop by and talk about the bands playing this Saturday, August 25 at Californos as part of the Manor Records Summer Showcase #2. We hear music from Toughies, PLANET WHAT and Scruffy & the Janitors. 

For this show we are joined by special guest, Duncan Burnett! He’s playing a great show at The Bottleneck on Friday night, August 17 with the mighty and soulful Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. We sit down with Duncan Burnett and hear some of his music, as well as some projects he helped record and produce along the way. In addition to that, we play brand new music from: Making Movies, Me Like Bees, RUBEO, and Sona.
