  • 65. Emotions as Signals

    06/05/2020 Duración: 17min

The longer this whole pandemic goes on, the more we are all invited (forced?) to sit with and in our emotions. The emotions of this time, of our lives, are quarantining with us. Have you noticed? I heard Dr. Susan Davis make such a simple and beautiful point about our heightened emotional experience during this time: our emotions are signals. In this episode, we're going to talk about: Values Judging strangers at the grocery store The quality of our actions And, of course, emotions as signals It's a good one...

  • Disassociating

    29/04/2020 Duración: 18min

This week we're talking about Disassociating, which is an experience that ranges from daydreaming to pure survival skill (especially for those who have experienced trauma). • Creating a Sustainable Life

    22/04/2020 Duración: 17min

Happy Earth Day! Today on The Transforming Anxiety Podcast, we're going to do something to honor sustainability, but from the perspective of you, your body, and your mind. We're talking about creating a sustainable life using the natural resources of YOU. Think for a moment about the natural resources of the Earth: water, land, air, the biosphere (plants and animals), fossil fuels (coal and petroleum), rare earth metals, and ores (gold, silver, copper, iron, etc.). Some of those resources are renewable: sunlight, air, wind, water. Some of those resources are non-renewable: fossil fuels. Now, let's think about human beings. What are our natural resources? And are they all renewable? (Spoiler alert: no, they're not!) Join me for this episode as we consider the natural resources of y.o.u. and how to create a truly sustainable life.

  • Emotional Contagion (Mental Health During COVID-19 Series #4)

    15/04/2020 Duración: 17min

If someone expresses fear, the group gloms on and generates more fear. In this episode, we're going to explore how this all happens - emotions don't spread like viruses, so why are they so contagious? Join me to learn about emotional contagion and how you can be sure to stand in your own authority, taking control of your own emotional wellbeing.

  • Getting Out of Overwhelm (Mental Health During COVID-19 Series #3)

    08/04/2020 Duración: 16min

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Whether you're currently overwhelmed or whether any part of your current overwhelm is Coronavirus-related, or not, overwhelm is something we're all *pretty* familiar with, amiright? Today, on The Transforming Anxiety Podcast, we're going to talk about 2 simple ways to get out of overwhelm. See, overwhelm depends on being big and confusing. Overwhelm feeds on your getting distracted, trying to control things that aren't yours to control. Overwhelm loves all of this! But without these things? Well, overwhelm tends to dissipate into nothing without the fuel of confusion, distraction, and being too big to handle. This podcast is the 3rd in a series on Mental Health During COVID-19. I'll keep bringing you topics and tools and tips to help support you and your mental health as long as we have to navigate this uncertain time. I've got you...

  • Mental Distancing (Mental Health During COVID-19 Series #2)

    01/04/2020 Duración: 13min

We've all gotten good at social distancing over the past few weeks, but as the distance grows between you and the outside world, your inside world is likely feeling very, very *close*. Your family. Your work. Your home. It's all zoomed IN right now. Big time. In this episode we're going to talk about the concept of Mental Distancing. This is where we give ourselves some distance using our minds. We used to get distance by going to work, sending the kids off to school, being free to run over to the local coffee shop whenever we wanted. But now that those natural reset buttons aren't available, it's important to practice Mental Distancing and give yourself the break and perspective you need.

  • Health Anxiety

    11/03/2020 Duración: 24min

Unless you're living on the moon, Coronavirus is pretty much top of mind right now. And even on an ordinary day, health anxiety affects somewhere between 5% - 25% of the adult American population. So I thought it was time to talk about health-related anxiety on The Transforming Anxiety Podcast. Because, folks: today we’re going to take our power back. I'm teaching a really important concept on this week's podcast and I believe it'll be a game-changer for you if you're struggling with anxiety around Coronavirus, anxiety around cold and flu season, or any health-related anxiety that you're experiencing. Plus, I made a super simple guide that illustrates this concept for you, too. You can grab your guide by clicking here or by visiting me at www.kellyhanlinmccormick.com/podcast/58.

  • The G.I. Joe Fallacy

    04/03/2020 Duración: 20min

Didn't think we'd be talking about action figures, did ya? This week, we're going to explore a concept from Yale's Dr. Laurie Santos, a concept that relates so well to what we're doing around here that it needed its very own episode. If you grew up in the 80's, you maybe saw the cartoon, G.I. Joe. And either way, you're likely familiar with the belief system they sold kids in every episode: Now you know...and knowing is half the battle! But what if knowing ISN'T half the battle? And the belief system that more knowledge is all we need actually keeps us stuck in inaction? Join me today to learn about the G.I. Joe Fallacy, optical illusions, and belief systems...and how it all ties together. Plus grab the downloadable guide that goes along with this episode by clicking here or going to www.kellyhanlinmccormick.com/podcast/57.

  • My Favorite Thoughts

    26/02/2020 Duración: 24min

This week, I'm sharing with you a whole bunch of my favorite thoughts to think. These are thoughts that I think on purpose. These are thoughts that I put into my mind intentionally. These are thoughts I like to practice... Sometimes when I'm talking to a client and I challenge them to think about a certain situation or person differently, they feel completely blocked. They're sure they have come up with ALL of the thoughts they could possibly be thinking. They've told me everything they can find in their minds. Yup. I've been there. And that's why it's handy to have a list of ready-to-go thoughts that reframe things, give you perspective, and put you back in control. So I made a guide for you that lists ALL of the thoughts I suggest in this week's podcast episode. You can grab your guide by clicking here or by visiting www.kellyhanlinmccormick.com/podcast/56.

  • Thought Webs

    19/02/2020 Duración: 22min

You ready to *choose your own adventure*? That's what we're talking about today with a brand-new concept: Thought Webs. A lot of my clients and students are familiar with the model. They totally understand how our thoughts create our feelings which drive our actions which ultimately net us the results we get in our lives. They appreciate how all of this works together... ...and they're ready for more. In this episode, we're going to explore Thought Webs: - How one circumstance kicks off a whole network of thoughts and feelings - How you can map out all of your thought-feeling-action-result options in just a few simple steps - How *pausing* will give you great insight - And how you always get to choose your own adventure I made a worksheet to go along with this one because it's helpful to see this all laid out. You can click here or go to www.kellyhanlinmccormick.com/podcast/55 to grab your copy. I'll see you there...

  • Judgment

    12/02/2020 Duración: 21min

Do you ever struggle with judgment? This is one of the most common things I hear from clients, friends, (ahem) myself... I know I shouldn't say this, but did you SEE what she did?! Ugh, I can't believe it's almost spring break and I'm going to have to put on a swimsuit...LOOK at my thighs. They have absolutely no idea what they're doing. And hey, judgment isn't all bad. We need to use our judgment (as discernment) to make decisions about what to eat, how to do our work, who to hang out with, and how to manage our lives. But, as you know, that's only one side of the judgment coin. We're exploring judgment on this week's episode. We're going to look at judgment by considering: Judging others Judging yourself Judging judgment There's a lot to look at with this one. So much so that we're spending a whole month on it over in The Fierce Calm Project. If you've been curious about joining, this is a great month to dive in...

  • Debunking "Self-Care"

    05/02/2020 Duración: 26min

"Self-care" is one of those terms that gets tossed around when a well-meaning someone encourages you to take a break, relax, and make some time for yourself. "Take a bubble bath! How about a mani-pedi? Go get a massage..."
