This week, I sit down with Harry Lorusso. Harry works for a great company called Chefs' Warehouse. For 35 years, Chefs' Warehouse has been working directly with numerous restaurants in our city and all over the nation to make sure they are stocked up with all the best meats, cheeses, and everything else they need to make all the food we love. Due to the COVID pandemic we are in, Chefs Warehouse decided to open its website and delivery service up to all of us at home. Chefs Warehouse will now be offering grocery home delivery right to your door. This week, Harry and I talk all about how a food delivery company is handling what’s happening in the world today. We talk about where they source their products from, how they manage to deliver to the door, the learning curve and problem solving on going from a restaurant delivery company to offering home delivery and so much more. This week, we learn about the one and only, Nikola Tesla! This dude was so ahead of his time, people thought he was crazy. I, for one, knew nothing of Tesla. I feel like we didn’t learn too much about him in school which really surprised me after doing my research. The things this man accomplished were astonishing. He’s responsible for so many of the comforts we have in this world today. From the radio to the power outlets in your house, these were all possible because of this man. This week, I sit down and find out a little more about Cults. A cult is a bizarre idea to me. When I was growing up, when I heard the word cult, I would either think of Heavens Gate, The Jonestown Massacre, or Religion. Chill... I’m not comparing religion to Heavens Gate or Jonestown, I’m just saying that’s what pops into my head. Although, there’s a blurry line between cults and religion, I don’t get too deep into what that line is. In this episode, I deep dive into The Jonestown Massacre and Heavens Gate and I learn about them. What were they? Who started them? What was the reason? Why the hell did all these “followers” believe some crazy ass people talking wild out the side of their neck. What made them follow someone so fully that it caused them to willingly kill themselves for their beliefs. This week was a little wild reading and listening all about these topics but I enjoyed it. Kinstretch Mobility is a type of mobility training that focuses on your body in a whole. It provides direction to improve your mobility in your joints to help improve your life. Clayton is also a business mentor. He provides online coaching to health and fitness practitioners that focus on goals they set for themselves to improve anything about their business and life. He offers knowledge on social media, producing content, creativity, and motivation to help you succeed and get shit done. I was excited to speak with him about how he made a name for himself in the health and fitness world. One of my great friends Rob is a student of Clayton and brought him to my attention. This week, I sit down with the The Brothmonger. Sarah is the local Kingpin in the ‘Delicious Homemade Soup Game.’ Her Instagram is an online shop in which she sells two different delicious handmade soups each week. After finding cooking a little later in life, Sarah kind of became obsessed. She just starting making all kinds of things. She had an interaction with Rick Sebak at the Vintage Mixer a couple months ago and Rick bought a few of her soups. He posted some rave reviews of the Brothmongers work and ever since, business has been boomin. What do you expect when you get a co-sign from a foodie like Mr. Sebak? We talk about so much awesome stuff in this episode. This week, I stop by the iHeartRadio Studio to sit down with another face on the Mt Rushmore of Pittsburgh Radio. Tall Cathy has been a radio personality on 96.1 KissFM for some time now. She makes us laugh while we’re sitting in traffic on our way home from work, and she also handles a lot of stuff behind the scenes so I wanted to have her on to tell me all about how she got started in radio. We talk about everything from Howie Mandel’s Mysophobia (fear of germs) to how the structure of the radio show is built, to how the regularly scheduled program has to change at the drop of a hat when we all experience a great tragedy in pop culture like losing Mac Miller or Kobe Bryant. This week, I sit down with Seth Hunter, who is the owner of Toll Gate Revival. Toll Gate Revival is a Vintage Americana shop located in historic Braddock, Pa. Seth grew up on a farm and throughout his childhood, he would go to flea markets, auctions, and estate sales with family. Early on, Seth didn’t have any plans on reselling vintage items full time, but after working a “regular job” he realized that he wasn’t into working for someone else. He slowly worked his way around the city hunting and gathering vintage pieces that caught his eye and eventually acquired a space to store them. After he had enough, he started selling pieces and continuously grew his brand to eventually end up at his location now in Braddock. This week, I sit down with Hal B Klein. Hal is the Pittsburgh Magazine Food Editor and Dining Critic. I was first told about Hal by Chef Matt at Streets on Carson. Hal was looking for the best Turkey Devonshire in all the lands and Streets got one that’s worth writing home about. Hal and I talk about how he got into loving food on a different level. Early on, Hal wanted to be an actor and a lawyer but after eating a perfectly ripe and in season strawberry, his whole career trajectory changed for the better. The Hounds started off as an idea that would allow a broad spectrum of creative assistance to anyone who would seek it. From planning events and creating art installations to creating custom furniture and quality workwear, they have an impressive resume when it comes to thinking outside the box and executing. After getting their feet wet and assisting others with a few events early on, they began to create their own. They quickly recruited a team full of killers. This week, I sit down with Matt Spahr. Matt is a spray can artist from Pittsburgh, whose been an OG in the game for many years. He is respected by many of the great artists we have in our city. Matt grew up in a world of skateboarding, music, and painting. As most of us do, Matt started doing small drawings and paintings as a young kid. He eventually fell in love with skateboarding and that played a big part in the transition to the world of spray can art and graffiti. I really enjoyed this episode. Graffiti is a strange world that is based off of infamy. It’s really cool to hear the perspective of someone who grew up in a world of being known without actually being known and is now doing great art and being able to show the face of the creator. This week, I sit down with Dan Grguras who is the creator of Baxter & The Bear. I first spotted his work at the I Made It Market last year. Dan creates alternate film and tv posters using a style he’s developed over the last several years. He searches all over to find significant items from movies and tv and manipulates them into a single image that encapsulates the entire film or show (as you see above). The first piece I saw was a ‘Home Alone’ piece that incorporated paint cans, micro machines, and ornaments. The detail Dan takes into making his work as close to authentic as possible does not go unnoticed. We talk about where his love of film came from, and how it’s progressed into this unique style he is perfecting. I loved talking with Dan and I really love all of his work. This week, I sit down with Kate Colussy to talk about her shop in the Southside of the city called Highway Robbery Vintage. Kate opened her store in 2011 and has been killing it ever since. Highway Robbery is a vintage shop that specializes in affordable and unique vintage items for men and women. When I worked in the Southside, I would pop into her shop and check out all the cool stuff she had. I always liked the vibe. We talk about how Kate got into vintage items, opening her own shop, flea markets, quitting cigarettes and caffeine, working retail in the airport before 9/11 and how much it changed after it happened, and so much more. This was a really cool episode. She has been in vintage game for almost a decade. This week, I sit down with Chef Ryan Peters. From a young age, Ryan always knew he wanted to cook. We talk about everything from his first job scrubbing dishes, to working as a banquet chef in a high end resort, to working his way up to interning at The French Laundry under Chef Thomas Keller.
